Raised Floor FAQ: Questions to Ask Before You Choose and Install

Questions our customers often ask about raised floors and raised access floors, answered by the ANBS team. ANBS owns the RHINO trademark in Thailand and is an investment partner in the RHINO factory, and has worked in raised floors since 1997. If you cannot find the answer you need, contact our team directly.

Raised floor basics

What is a raised floor?

A raised floor (raised access floor or access floor) is a floor of removable 600 x 600 mm panels on adjustable pedestals above the existing concrete slab. The space underneath carries power and data cabling and can deliver cooling air. Read more in what is a raised floor.

Is there a difference between a raised floor, a raised access floor and a prefabricated raised floor?

No. They are different names for the same system. See raised access floor for details.

What does a raised floor system consist of?

Panels, adjustable pedestals, stringers (in some systems) and accessories such as airflow panels, floor boxes, ramps and step nosings. See raised floor system.

What are the benefits of a raised floor?

Cabling runs neatly under the floor, the room layout can change without breaking up the floor, any panel can be lifted for maintenance, and the underfloor void can deliver cooling air in computer rooms.

Panel types and finishes

What types of raised floor panel are there?

The main types are cement-filled steel (RhinoROC®), calcium sulphate (RhinoEU®, Lindner NORTEC) and aluminium (RhinoAlutec®), plus airflow panels. See RHINO raised floor system.

What size are raised floor panels?

The RHINO raised floor panels supplied by ANBS are 600 x 600 mm.

Which finishes can I choose for a raised floor?

For example, bare panels for carpet tiles, anti-static HPL, conductive vinyl and porcelain tiles. See floor coverings.

Do I need an anti-static raised floor?

Yes, in rooms with sensitive electronic equipment such as server rooms. Read more in anti-static raised floor.

How much load can a raised floor take?

It depends on the panel model, the understructure and the use. Our team chooses the model based on the equipment in the room; talk to us directly.

Installation and timing

How long does raised floor installation take?

It depends on the floor area and how ready the site is. Because it is a prefabricated system, there are no wet trades. Our team will give you a programme after the site survey.

Can a raised floor be installed in an existing building?

Yes. Adjustable pedestals compensate for an uneven existing slab. Where height is limited, there is the low-profile RhinoCross® system.

How should the site be prepared before installation?

The existing slab should be clean and dry, and the main services that run under the floor should already be routed. Our team will explain the details during the site survey.

Does ANBS install outside Bangkok?

Yes, we install nationwide. For work in Bangkok, see raised floor installation in Bangkok.

Use in different rooms

Which raised floor should a server room use?

Cement-filled steel panels on a stringer grid are the usual choice, with airflow panels in front of the racks. Read more in raised floors for data centres.

Should an office use a raised floor?

It suits offices with many desks and frequent layout changes. Read more in raised floors for offices.

Can a raised floor be used in a home?

Raised floors are designed mainly for commercial buildings. In homes they are usually used in rooms with a lot of equipment, or on balconies and roof terraces with iPed® pedestals. Talk to our team.

Maintenance and panel replacement

How do I maintain a raised floor?

Clean according to the type of finish, always use a panel lifter when opening the floor, and put each panel back in its original position.

If a panel is damaged, can I replace just that panel?

Yes. Lift out the damaged panel and fit a panel of the same model. ANBS provides after-sales service; see RHINO trademark owner in Thailand.

Price and quotations

What does raised floor price depend on?

The panel model, floor height, finish, floor area and accessories. Read more in raised floor price.

What information do I need to send for a raised floor quotation?

The floor area, room type, available height, the finish you want and site photos. Send them to Ple on 081-336-2012 or LINE @684ubper.
